Surgical Care

At Streetsville Animal Hospital, we are dedicated to providing safe progressive surgical options for our valued patients. Our highly skilled staff perform a wide range of veterinary surgical procedures from routine surgeries, such as spaying and neutering, to more complex soft tissue and orthopaedic procedures.

Before your pet’s surgery we will perform a complete physical exam and any required pre-operative blood tests. Any changes revealed during the exam or testing will be discussed with you before any further procedures are performed.

During surgery, a trained veterinary technician monitors your animal’s vital parameters blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and oxygenation using state-of-the-art equipment. Dr. Todd will use his years of experience to perform the surgery in an efficient and expeditious manner, minimizing the length of time your pet is under anaesthesia.

It is vital that your pet’s comfort level be maintained before, during, and after surgery. Injectable medicine is used to control stress and pain before surgery and during surgery. If necessary oral medicine will be dispensed with your pet to provide ongoing pain relief while they are at home. It is proven that a comfortable animal will recover more quickly and have fewer complications. We at Streetsville Animal Hospital are committed to pain management for all of our surgical patients.

When it is time for your pet to go home, we will also address any questions or concerns you may have about surgery, including the effects of anesthesia, pain management, or post-operative care. A customized information sheet will be provided and all of your questions will be answered.
